The Vocal Mastery Method was born out of a series of discoveries I made about the truth of singing, a revealing of what is really going on.

It feels like I am tapping into the physics of the sound energy itself, not just the physical mechanics of singing.

I have always felt like a spiritual scientist when it comes to my own process of singing. Sensing the etheric nature of the sound itself, coupled with the physical body processes. Where is the sound going, feeling the sound energy itself--these investigations, these natural curiousities, always made me feel like a scientist of my own process, observing what I sensed, and seeing what worked and what didn't. This was the basis of many of my understandings, how I felt the sound moving in me, and what felt natural and right. There are many physical skills to develop as well and a major unlock was finally understanding breath support. That has become a major element in my teaching and one of VMM's secret sauces.

I was also very fortunate to study with numerous top teachers along my own vocal journey. I studied with university opera vocal coaches from Julliard, UBC, UofT, and Indiana University. I also studied with the MET Opera's Vocal Coach Gerald Moore, who also coached at La Scala, Covent Garden, and all major opera houses around the world. I had the opportunity to sing alongside Canada's top opera singers and be coached by them too: Russell Braun, who holds the Order of Canada, Michael Schade, who holds the Order of Canada. Grammy winner Isabel Bayrakdarian who is also a four time Juno winner and Adrianne Pieczonka, who also holds the Order of Canada and received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. I started my vocal career with exposure to the best vocalists and cutting edge thought in vocal technique.

I began teaching in 2010, and it was a personal process of integrating all that I had learned. When I look back to the very beginning of my teaching, the main elements of the Vocal Mastery Method were there but it was the connection of how of all of these understandings come together in a simple, holistic method that made the Vocal Mastery Method and my 3-Ring System so clear and easy to follow, when it finally came together in 2022. It has made teaching so much easier and more effective. My singers and students are so much clearer on what they need to do. They are empowered and progress rapidly, and I am empowered with a clear system on how to teach them.

This is why I am so passionate about not only coaching singers, students, artists, and performers in my method, but also to train voice teachers, vocal coaches and music educators in my method as it is an empowering system that assists both teacher and student to advance the singer more quickly, as both the teacher and singer remain laser focused on the foundational goals that create solid healthy sound.

Receiving this method felt like receiving a series of spiritual downloads, and it has been a gift in my teaching and to all of my singers. I also feel a responsibility to share the Vocal Mastery Method, as it feels like a powerful method for singers and teachers alike. I hope that this method not only benefits my sphere of teaching and coaching, but other teachers and their roster of students as well.
