For our Opera & Classical Singers, it means nailing your audition arias, entering competitions, perfecting your vocals and expression to be fitting of an operatic stage, fine-tuning your pronunciation, building your resume, applying for yaps, summer programs and other specialized training programs, auditioning for orchestras, and getting as much experience doing roles as possible. Opera Singers need to be amazing live with exceptional musicianship.

For Musical Theatre Singers, it means solidifying your vocals, deepening your acting chops, building confidence in your dancing, getting an agent, self-tapes, auditions, roles, marketing, branding, demos, resumes. For younger performers it also means competitions, summer programs, intensives etc. These performers have to kill it live, have incredible stamina, sustainable technique and charismatic personalities.

Pop, Rock and really most contemporary genres (Country, Rap, etc, etc), there are several paths here, you can go the route of producing music consistently, and pump out song after song and be a YouTube or/and Spotify Artist, or you can go more into the performing world, crafting a unique show, pitching, showcasing, creating your album, and getting agents, managers, sometimes promoters. These Artists have the most to do in terms of marketing and branding. Pop artists (of all varieties: Rock, Country, Rap etc) often need assistance with grants & grant writing, gofundme campaigns and other promotional work. Music videos are a must in this category, great visual marketing is necessary, but most importantly the music has to be exceptional, and quality. New performing singers in this category have to really understand their mics and mic settings and be able to knock it out of the park live to stand out.

Jazz Singers have a similar path to Pop Artists, but swing in much smaller circles, and are very supported in certain cities, Toronto being one of them. These Artists need to prove they are solid musicians, deep, creative, artistic and intelligent in order to have lasting careers. Our Jazz Singers need the confidence to be different and help with all the typical elements of lifting a career of the ground. Jazz Singers always have to be really amazing live, as this more than most other genres really is all about the live abilities to show us what you've got.

World Music Artists, well each Artist who sings the music of their country is truly lucky if they live abroad, as they can easily rally their fellow countrymen to support them, once they've gained their respect through their quality music. There is so much built-in support for these Artists, they just need seek it out. They still have to do all of the activities a Pop Singer has to do to build a career, but there is often less competition so you can have success in these genres faster if you do a good job of each of the elements. These Artists can be recording Artists only, but usually need to perform live to have a sustaining career financially. To stand out, to rise to true fame in their country of origin, the live performances need to be high level.

Christian Artists have an incredibly supportive community to tap into, like World Artists, however, they have a lot of competition. This genre is tricky to be innovative, but worth trying, as many of these Artists have incredible careers. These Artists have dedicated followers, radio stations and channels ready to support them. Again, all the elements for a Pop career apply here to, and since competition is real in this genre, you have to get it right to have success. These Artists also need to record, and need to be great live with the stamina for a long show and the ability to lead the audience through a spiritual experience.

Singer-Songwriters are often the most aloof of the group, not always wanting to perform, preferring to record. These Artists can make great careers in song submissions, becoming prolific song writers for others. Though, at the moment, AI is putting this at risk to some degree. This will depend how the legalities play out over ownership and rights over the next few years. Obviously, these Artists can have a similar path to a Pop career that we discussed above, but since they are also writers they can certainly have more career options. We don't believe that AI will ever negate or replace humans wanting to hear other humans describe their experience; however we do believe that it raises the stakes and the bar in general.
